Meet Our Principal

Welcome to Truscott Elementary!!!

Mrs Karen Hanford

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I was raised in Longmont, Colorado, as the youngest of three children.  After graduating from Niwot High School, I attended the University of Northern Colorado.  While at UNC, I studied Social Sciences, with a minor in Geography and an emphasis in Elementary Education.  While attending UNC, I married my husband, Jason.  Several years later, my husband and I adopted three biological sisters from Chihuahua, Mexico.  In 2009, I received a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University.  I also attended Adams State College to earn an endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education, supporting my passion for second language acquisition.

My teaching career began at Cache La Poudre Elementary School (CLPE) in LaPorte, Colorado.  While at CLPE, I taught Kindergarten and fourth grades.  After the adoption of our children I needed to shorten my commute, thus I began teaching at Shawsheen Elementary in Greeley, Colorado.  At Shawsheen, I taught Kindergarten, Literacy Interventions and second grades.  With my family’s need for a change, we moved to Berthoud in 2007.  From 2007 – 2011, I taught at Spangler Elementary in Longmont, Colorado.  While at Spangler, I taught fifth grade, ESL, GT, Literacy and was the RtI coordinator.  In 2011, I accepted a position as the English Language Acquisition Administrator here in Thompson School District.  During my tenor in TSD, I have supervised the K through 12th grade English Language Acquisition program.

I look forward to meeting each of you and working with you to meet the educational needs of your child.  I am excited to be a part of the tremendous Truscott staff and together, in partnership with you, I believe we can be the best school in Thompson School District.

Sincerely,

Karen Hanford, Principal
Truscott Elementary School
